Himalayan Brewery Ltd.was established in 1980. HBL signed a joint venture and technical agreement with the pioneer Indian brewer, Mohan Meakin Ltd. Construction of the brewery commenced in early 1982. The first brew was produced on December 18, 1982. Regular beer production started from February 2, 1983 under the Mohan Meakin’s technical supervision.

Nepal is either known as the land of the Himalayas and its towering peaks, above all the world’s highest peak ‘Sagarmatha’ or ‘Mount Everest’ or ‘Chomolungma’ or the last ‘Shangri-la’, a hidden world enchanted by its age old traditions, folklores and above all, its people. Nepalese are cordial, brave, peace loving and enjoy life to the fullest, despite facing hardships and hurdles of daily life. Nepalese enjoy their drinks and have produced home brewed beer, distilled liquor since many centuries.
Fellow brewers, beer lovers and enthusiasts know that genuine Nepalese beers are produced by Himalayan Brewery. A vibrant Nepalese beer ‘ICEBERG Premium Beer’ has been brewed by Himalayan Brewery since 1982.

Glorious 30 years
During 1983, HBL produced 15,000 hectoliters. With the meteoric rise in demand for Iceberg Premium Beer, the capacity was increased to 25,000 hectoliters in 1988. Prior September 1987, HBL produced Golden Eagle Lager beer, the popular brand of Mohan Meakin Ltd. As Iceberg Premium Beer gained immense popularity, production of Golden Eagle Lager Beer was discontinued. HBL once gain increased its production capacity to 40,000 hectoliters in 1989. Unable to meet the tremendous response of the beer connoisseurs of Nepal, the capacity was increased to 80,000 hectoliters per annum in 1990.
With the emergence of resourceful new promoters and highly qualified professionals in 2010, the stage has been set to invigorate the HBL and TDPL operations to lead the market in brewing and distillery by year 2020. We have set a ten year plan that will restructure the existing business, upgrade and modernize the existing plants/ machinery, establish best practices in each process and expand the production capacities by three folds.
We will grow. We will grow right. Initially pursuing organic development and expansion, we will undertake vertical integration in the future so as to be in total control of our raw materials, packing materials and goods dispatch. We will employ the right people, in the right place, at the right time to ensure optimum growth.
We intend to develop our team so that our people can grow as the company grows – a mutually beneficial relationship. We shall strive to attain our primary goal, which is to develop and strengthen our license to produce and trade, bestowed by the communities in which we function. As HBL / TDPL prosper and grow, these communities will continue to benefit from both the value created by HBL / TDPL and its behavior as a corporate citizen.
